  PROCORDA ARTS ENRICHMENT PROGRAMME

Programme Director: Andrew Quartermain

andrew@procorda.com

This programme aims to inspire children at every corner of the country who have the least access to music as performers and developing active audiences; providing access to the highest quality of performance, music making and instrumental tuition . Also, to engage parents, families, carers and schools staff and build a lasting musical legacy in communities and social groups where this will have the most impact.

What does the programme consist of?

1) “Create and Perform” Workshops for children with the least access to music

2) “Create Together” Family Workshops to promote bonding and communication through music

 3) “Pro Corda Concert Passport” Scheme to provide sustained access to performances by international artists and promote a legacy of concert going.

“Perform and Create” Workshops. These workshops take place at Pro Corda’s home, Leiston Abbey and at Schools and Community Centres across the country.

The day starts with a performance from distinguished artists. This is then explored creatively through:

-     Creative Musicianship Sessions exploring the music heard at the start of the day through improvisation and composition, while introducing and developing instrumental skills

-     Dalcroze Eurhythmics Sessions exploring participant’s creative reaction to the music through movement

Participants then get to share the stage with the artists who gave the initial performance to give an integrated performance showcasing their creative work.

All participants receive a professionally produced CD of their work.

Each day is accompanied by an education pack for schools

All “Create and Perform” participants and their families get to take part in our “Concert Passport” scheme.

“Create Together” Workshop Days. These workshop days take place at Leiston Abbey and at schools and community centres across the country

Create Together” Workshops consists of:

-     Creative Musicianship Sessions developing instrumental skills through improvisation

-     Dalcroze Eurhythmics Sessions exploring pulse, phrase and spacial awareness through movement

-     Music Theatre Sessions preparing material for a Mini Production at the end of the day.

-     Technical Theatre Sessions to make costumes, wigs, masks and props for the production.

-     Each day concludes with a mini production. All participants receive a DVD of the production.

-     All “Create Together” participants have full access to the “Concert Passport” scheme.

How do these workshops benefit families, children, parents and carers?

      -    Workshops Introduce instrumental skills to family members, either to help a child who

already has instrumental skills or to make sure the skill is carried on at home by

introducing it to parents too. This encourages family music making at home, promotes

family time together away from and beyond the workshop and creates a shared and

lasting  love of music making which can be a great tool in bringing people together.

      -  Encourages parents to work with their children and share creative ideas in classes such

as technical theatre and Dalcroze where all participants are on an absolute equal footing

and not held back by ability. Group movement work, for example, encourages people to

listen together and breaks down barriers of tension in terms of individual expression.

      -  Encourages a sense of shared pride in a final performance that would be a collective a

         family effort.
